Taiko Bar

A street cool cocktail bar that makes you feel like you’re in a speakeasy in Roppongi

Go down

What first started as a playful flirt between kitchen and bar, inspired by a shared love for Asia, has grown into a new phenomenon: Taiko Bar

With excellent service from some of Amsterdam’s best bartenders, supreme bites from Taiko Cuisine and a cocktail menu that makes you feel like you’re in a speakeasy in Roppongi, guests can expect all of this from the welcoming and casual setting of Taiko Bar. On the weekends, DJs create a club-like atmosphere and there’s a high-energy karaoke night for a memorable night out with friends. Taiko Bar translates the sophisticated nightlife of global cities such as Bangkok, Tokyo and Shanghai into the intimate, cosy setting of an Amsterdam neighbourhood pub.

At Taiko Bar, everything revolves around three elements: Asian flavours, international luxury and local roots

Taiko Bar boasts a completely new bar menu in which authentic drinks and spirits play an important role in creating the extensive selection of Asian-inspired cocktails. The "Taiko style Saketini", served as a Japanese Highball, is one drink in particular that shows how the bartenders are real masters of mixology. With seventeen completely new cocktail creations with intriguing names such as So Long Ken Jeong, Lost in Translation, Kho San Road and Hatsumomo, the Taiko Bar team have developed an eccentric cocktail menu which can be seen as an exploration of some of the best ingredients grown in the Asian continent. The cocktail menu is accompanied by a refined range of first-class sushi, sashimi and dim sum and a new special: the one and only “TFC” (Taiko Fried Chicken). Taiko has developed five different versions of fried chicken: from spicy chicken wings with Szechuan pepper to crispy chicken skin with kimchi and gun powder chicken gyoza. Additionally, a selection of Taiko’s favourite dishes can be paired with the Asian drinks and cocktails, including Rocky Oysters Salty Fingers, Japanese Wagyu A4 beef and celery kimchi.

Team

Bar Manager Terrence Bhiekarie and his team believe the secret ingredients of Taiko Bar’s success are paying special attention to each and every guest and being able to respond effortlessly to their needs. Terrence, one of the ten best bartenders in the Netherlands, has a passion for good wine, finding perfect and harmonious flavour combinations and creating an atmosphere filled with happy people. Like Schilo, Terrence not only also grew up in the same neighbourhood as Conservatorium but he also shares the chef’s endless fascination with Asia. Hugo Engels, Taiko's classically French-trained chef de cuisine, share this love for Asia as well and is inspired by its powerful flavours, refined nuances and its authentic cooking techniques that are passed down through generations. This inspired Hugo to create the hotel’s well-known "TFC", Taiko Fried Chicken. This is street food, Taiko-style, created with innovation, sophistication and a respect for the ingredients.
